For subsistence farming in India women form an important part of the work force. This work is usually seasonal and demands a high level of physical activity. In addition most of these women are also either pregnant or lactating for most of their reproductive years, which is an additional stress. The energy intake of women in developing countries is almost invariably far-below FAO/WHO recommended levels. There is no information available on the energy intake of women farmers of the Uttarakhand hills in different seasons of agricultural activity. The present study was therefore carried out to find the energy intake of female hill farmers in different seasons.References
